History Description Of Vintage Postcards
PHOTOCHROME ERA (1939 to present)
Photochromes (also known as Modern Chromes) first came into being in 1939. Their colors were particularly appealing to collectors. The famous movie, The Wizard of Oz, affirmed America’s love for color images. These “Chrome” postcards started to dominate the scene soon after they were launched by the Union Oil Company in their western service stations in 1939. They were easily produced, of high photo quality and most importantly, they were in color. Their spread was momentarily slowed down during WWII due to supply shortages, but they replaced both linen and black & white postcards by 1945 in the roadside postcard racks. Linen firms converted to photochrome postcards or went out of business. Black and white postcard firms merged with larger companies or disappeared completely.
REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS (1900 to present)
Real Photo Postcards were used as early as 1900. They can be particularly difficult to date unless they have a postmark or a date from the photographer. They must be carefully examined to ensure they are not reproductions which can be a problem.
There is much confusion on what “Real Photo” postcards are and how to identify them. Real Photo postcards are reproduced photographs developed onto photographic paper. With the size and weight of postcards with a postcard back. There are many postcards that reproduce photos by various printing methods that aren’t “real photos.” Instead are the same methods used to reproduce photos in magazines and newspapers. The best way to tell the difference is to look at the postcard with a magnifying glass. If the photo is printed you will see that it is made up of a lot of little dots, the same as a photo printed in a newspaper. A “real photo” postcard is solid, no dots.
If your Post Card facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Post Card information slip by you.
Helpful Hint: Most real photo postcards have identifying marks on the back usually in the stampbox corner, that identifies the manufacturer of the photographic paper. You can approximate the age of the Real Photo by knowing when the paper manufacturer was in business
ART DECO ERA (1910 to early ’30s)
Art Decos are known mainly for their vibrant colors. Art Deco is usually concerned with things of the past including pictures done by the ancient Greeks. Also copies with a twist of Middle Eastern subjects, variations on Egyptian artifacts, a natural extension of Art Nouveau and a whole variety of other influences not so directly related. They often depict pretty ladies in fancy clothes vogue style. Also of note are the sharp angles and straight lines. They have gained in popularity over the years and now have a very strong following.
The Art Deco period began around 1900 and ended around 1930. If in fact it ever did have an ending. At least however, this is the period during which the greatest volume of work was produced. What finally ended the movement? Most likely it suffered an untimely demise due to the financial crash of 1929 plus a worldwide depression. Then the second World War interrupted any recovery

Renting Villas in Costa Rica
The following paragraphs summarize the work of Costa Rica experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of Costa Rica. Heed their advice to avoid any Costa Rica surprises.
Instead of renting a high priced hotel room, you can go and rent yourself a villa for $1500 a week which is cheap. Comparing to a hotel room costing that much, and with a villa you can get more like a eat in kitchen and actual bedrooms not just a single room. You can rent out up to 6 bedrooms if you have a group of 12 of more.
Costa Rican vacation rentals provide some upscale properties you can rent by the week and is in perfect view of the oceanfront. The homes are privately owned so you don’t have to worry about waking up to dealing with hundreds of other hotel and resort guests. You can wake up in a normal home environment exactly how many people are used to on a daily basis. It’s feeling like you’re at home. Costa Rican vacation rentals also offer amenities like tours around the area, car rentals, social activities, recommending local restaurants and taverns, and more. The management team that is on-site is committed to assisting you through your stay.
All the homes come fully furnished complete with a full kitchen, DVD-CD stereo, satellite television, private pool with waterfall, and central air conditioning. Dishes and beds are maintained with maid service the company provides during your stay. This is what some people call a great vacation because having a house over a hotel room or resort, is actually much more peaceful than to just deal with annoying hotel guests.
The information about Costa Rica presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Costa Rica or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.
And you can wake up and have a cup of coffee without the hustle and bustle of a hotel having to wake up at once to make it to breakfast. Basically you can shower and relax as you were at your own home. Renting a house is actually much better if you’re planning to bring family and friends, so it’s a lot more relaxed and stress free and nobody dealing with having their rooms all screwed up where as everyone has a room and is comfortable.
The nice thing is that honeymooners would appreciate renting a house because it’s much more private than a hotel or resort and it’s putting the romance back into the environment. When you have your own space and not having to deal with anyone outside of the confinements of your villa. What’s even more convenient is that all the properties in the area are within 20 minutes of the Liberia International Airport, when you depart to fly home which is nice because the staff will ensure that you get to the airport to catch your flight home. Too many places where some people are just too far away and have to leave super early just to make it in time for check in, and have enough time to get to the gate so they can get their boarding passes.
At least this place you can relax and get to the airport on time and still make your flight on time. According to the website people who loved staying there left comments about coming back which says a lot for the company’s reputation.
Now you can be a confident expert on Costa Rica. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Costa Rica.

What Makes A Postcard Valuable?
The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.
There are many varying factors in what makes postcards valuable. Some of them are age and condition, subject matter, photo vs. printed, and even the postmark. Postcards are collected for thousands of reasons. Some are topical like Christmas cards, cards featuring Santa, Valentines, Halloween, Black related, alligators, etc… and others are topographical which are regional images, state views, buildings, your hometown, etc… There are plenty of cards out there to fit any interest varying in price from ten cents to thousands of dollars.
Obviously the older cards are make them more desirable to a lot of postcard collectors but even cards printed as recently as yesterday are collected. The first known postcard from what I have found was used in Austria in 1869. Postcards made in the USA before 1907 had an un-divided back and the only thing that could be written on the backside of the card was the address. The front of the card usually had a smaller image or design which didn’t take up the entire card or left an end open for a short message. After 1907 the back of the card was divided into two sides, one for the address and the other side for the message. Real photo cards seem to be most common from around 1910 through the early 1950s. Linen postcards were introduced in the 1930s during the Depression and were still able to be used into the early 1950s. Chrome cards, sometimes called photochrome made their appearance in the late 1940s and are usually the type of card you would find today. A number of these somewhat “modern cards” showing diners, roadside attractions such as tourist camps, motels and tourist traps have become very popular in the last decade for collectors. If you live in a metropolitan area you might have the opportunity to pick up rack cards. These cards can also be purchased at a postcard show or from dealers and are usually, but not always, fairly inexpensive…
You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about Post Card. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.
The better shape the card is in certainly affects its value. Creases, folds, tears, soiling dirt which is postmark bleed through and water damage can lower the value of a card. When dealing with a real photo postcard the sharpness, contrast, exposure under or over exposed can also effect the graded condition and overall value of the card.
Also certain types of subject matter are more desirable to many collectors. State Views ie Main Street Scenes, Interior Views, Occupational and Railroad images (trains, depots, etc..) are probably some of the more expensive to find and aquire. When it comes to the greetings postcards the most popular are Halloween, full sized Santas, July 4th and Art Nouveau. There are many others and of course everybody has different interest and likes. People collect all kinds of cards for all different reasons. Of course rarity always come into play with collectibles even postcards! Purchasing a postcard value book can come in very handy if you are serious about your collecting.
This article’s coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.

Email Listing Creation – Possible with Your Blog
This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Blog Advertising. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Blog Advertising.
Email opt-in lists are very important. They provide you a legitimate way to keep in touch with your customers, not to mention a way to ensure that you don’t lose them to the competition as well.
Subscription Software
Choose the best software that will allow you to automate the registration process for would-be subscribers. Once you have this up and running, visitors of your blog can automatically opt-in to your email list even without your physical supervision. As the settings for these programs are configurable, it’s up to you to choose whether approval of subscriptions would be automated or manual.
Offer and Link
Use an attention-catching image or decorative text when inviting people to join your email list. Be sure to place it in a prominent area of your homepage. As for other pages, just choose a spot where it’s highly visible and which you could maintain for your entire website.
As for the link, just keep it simple and remember to make regular checks in order to ensure that it’s always in good working order.
Call to Action
Since building your email list is your current goal, it’s best to end every blog entry you write with an invitation to join your email list. Your call to action for now should offer strong encouragement on joining your email list.
For an effective call to action, just keep your sentence short but powerful. Use action-packed words and if possible, try creating a sense of urgency with your words.
Deadlines
See how much you can learn about Blog Advertising when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.
Speaking of urgency, one way of making people even more aware of the need to join your email list is by offering an incentive with it. This can be special discounts, membership privileges, or free ebooks and the likes. Whatever you end up offering, just remember to place a deadline on your promotion.
With the clock ticking, your blog readers are sure to experience just how necessary it is for them to avail of your offer.
Benefits
Besides those incentives you’ve mentioned, there must also be other benefits for a customer to enjoy once they do sign up for your email list. Explain to them what you hope to accomplish with your email list and how they’ll benefit from it at the same time.
Signing up with your email list, for instance, will allow them to receive regular updates about the latest additions to your blog. They may also be able to receive newsletters containing special members-only data.
Safety and Confidentiality
Another way to encourage people to sign up for your email list from your blog is by giving them the assurance they need when it comes to safety and confidentiality. Purchase and register for what you need in order to provide your customers as secure platform for the registration process. A secure platform is one that keeps customer data safe from getting hacked.
As for confidentiality, you should also give your solemn word not to share any information they submit with other parties.
Overall Improvement
Of course, the real clincher is your blog itself. If you consistently work on providing the best content for your blog, you’re giving them the best reason to sign up for your email list. If you don’t prove to them that there’s something to look forward to in your blog, they will never think there’s any reason for them to join your email list.
Those who only know one or two facts about Blog Advertising can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Apple Iphone. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?
The first tip that you need to remember about your iPhone camera concerns how it actually takes pictures. If you have tried to take photos with your iPhone, than you may have noticed something was slightly off. Unlike traditional digital cameras that have a two stage process to taking a photograph, the iPhone features a one-stage process. Also, unlike traditional digital cameras that take the photo once you press the shutter button, the iPhone has a much different process. When you press the shutter button of the iPhone, nothing happens, however, it is when you release the shutter button that the iPhone takes the photo. This has resulted in many photo’s being slightly “off timing” because the users are not used to how this camera actually takes photos.
A great tip for taking a photograph with your iPhone is to press the shutter button, and then set up your shot. After you are satisfied with what you are seeing, than you can release the shutter button to take the photograph. Following this tip will allow you to take better composed photographs, as well as pictures that are properly timed. The next tip for your iPhone camera is how you set up your contact list. This tip is really fun and will make your contact list hilarious for you and everyone around you. When you take photos of your contacts, you can set them to where they will appear when they call you. A great way to have fun with this feature is to place your friends on one side of a glass screen and then place yourself on the other side.
Make your friend press their face up against the glass while you take the photo. This will serve as an optical illusion, and when they call you it will look as if they are trapped within your iPhone. If you are looking for a fun way to express yourself, and to just have a great time with friends, set up your contact list this way. The iPhone has many different tips and tricks within it, however, the key is to simply experiment with these tips to make them work for you. Perhaps the greatest aspect about the iPhone is the fact that it gives users the ability to customize and create a phone environment that is solely their own.
That’s the latest from the Apple Iphone authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

The Importance of Mentoring for Children of Prisoners
It is estimated that there is approximately 2 million youths in the United States that have an incarcerated parent. It is also estimated that there are over 7 million children with one parent who is under the supervision of the Federal or state correctional authorities. The figures indicate that there are nearly 200 children out of every 1,000 who are in dire need of guidance and mentoring from relatives, concerned parties or the government. Any mentoring organization in private or government practice has a high likelihood of encountering at least one of these children, making it extremely essential that the needs of children of prisoners must be considered and integrated into specific mentoring practices.
Children with special needs
Children of prisoners undergo plenty of physical and emotional challenges that other children who live in normal households won’t. Some of these challenges include:
- Having to cope with being separated from that parent for long periods of time, with some children having to deal with repeated incarcerations of his or her parent/s.
- Having to deal with infrequent visitations or the experience of going through procedures in prisons just to visit the parent.
- Having to deal with social stigma that usually accompanies children with parents who are incarcerated such as teasing, name-calling, guilt, etc.
- Having to live in conditions or environments that are unstable, unreliable and often less than ideal.
The problems of allowing children of prisoners to cope without any extra help often increase depending on certain factors, such as:
- the age of the child
- the presence of another parent or authority figure
- the quality of time spent by the child in the care and guidance of this parent or authority figure
- the economic status of the child’s family
Without the availability of an effective mentoring program for children of prisoners, there is a high risk that they will develop problems both personal and social, such as:
If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.
- using and abusing drugs and alcohol at a young age
- irregular attendance in school
- developing problems with their peers
- finding outlet in destructive behavior or developing relationships with questionable individuals or groups
Using mentoring programs for children of prisoners
To help improve this group of children’s chances at experiencing success in school and in their social interactions, certain mentoring programs are being made available in both private and government organizations, such as those funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Some of the mentoring resources that children of prisoners can look forward to include:
1. Access to a wide variety of educational, counseling, guidance and healthcare services that include the children, their siblings, other family members or caregivers. Many of these programs may even include the incarcerated parent/s.
2. Access to the appropriate resources that children of imprisoned parents can use, such as books, data and other information that will help them cope with the absence of either or both parents.
3. Access to mentoring and counseling services that can assure high levels of confidentiality to protect the child’s identity.
4. Access to realistic and non-judgmental services from mentors and volunteers who also have the right background, training and experience to assist the children.
5. Opportunities to maximize their natural capabilities and experience new activities that will help them learn and cope in their environment.
6. Opportunities to experience leadership roles with their peers.
7. Assistance in terms of guidance and even financial services to help caregivers of children of prisoners cope with the financial burdens of running a household in the absence of one or both parents.
That’s the latest from the Mentoring authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

Hawaii-Pearl Harbor
When visiting Hawaii most people think of lush tropical trees and white sandy beaches. After all, Hawaii is the perfect spot for relaxing and sipping fruity drinks. However, there is one somber tourist spot that should not be missed. It is the memorial at Pearl Harbor.
Pearl Harbor was once known only for its ample supply of pearl oysters. No one would have ever dreamed that this harbor would become the reason that the United States entered into World War II. Sadly today it is known only for the infamous attacks that happened December 7, 1941, when wave Japanese planes flew over an attacked an unsuspecting sleeping army. Over 1.5 million people visit the USS Arizona memorial yearly. Tourists of all kinds stop here to remember the lives lost on that fateful morning so long ago.
2335 US soldiers died during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Roughly half of those killed were aboard the USS Arizona. The giant ship was bombed and sank in less than ten minutes trapping over a thousand men on board. Today, the ship lies exactly where it sank and is a giant tomb. The bodies aboard the ship were never recovered. A memorial was erected and floats directly on top of the ship. The ship still leaks oil into the harbor in small amounts that have been said to be black tears.
The information about Hawaii Vacation presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Hawaii Vacation or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.
The mood at the memorial is somber even today over sixty years after the attack. The park does a nice job of filtering the average number of 4500 guests through the memorial daily. Upon arrival to the memorial you are given a ticket and told when your entry to the movie theater will be. The time of year of your visit determines your wait time. During the summer months when crowds are at their highest you may have to wait a couple of hours. But, there is plenty to occupy your time. There is a museum that contains memorabilia such as letters from soldiers to loved ones and uniforms. The museum also has photos of Japanese planes as well as map showing the destruction of the harbor.
There is also a World War II submarine located at the memorial site. The USS Bowfin Museum and Park are worth taking a stroll through. They have kept the submarine intact and you can see pretty much how the men lived in the submarine. You can actually walk through the submarine. Be forewarned, this is not an activity for Closter phobic people, the ship’s quarters are very tight.
Once the wait is over the tour through the memorial runs fairly quickly. They show a movie that lasts about twenty minutes. It shows exactly what happened that early morning in December all those years ago, complete with video footage. Once the movie is over you will take a short boat ride out to the actual memorial. When the ferry arrives, you will walk all the way to the back of the memorial where there is a wall listing the names of all who died that day.

Costa Rica Vacation – Best Flight Out of Town
After my girlfriend and I took a look at the various locations and the entertainment provided we made a decision. It seemed the best thing to do was to do a 10-day trip. We thought that 5 days on the coast and 5 days inland around San Jose and Monteverde would give us a nice visit and allow us to see a wide area of the country.
I got on the phone and called a local travel agent and had a little talk. I learned quite a bit. You can book your own flight because these days there aren’t many tour discounts. That is becoming a thing of the past. But with tours you have it made easy for you. You are picked up and directed to the different restaurants and entertainment available to you.
September, October, and November are the rainy and hurricane season. Prime season is January, February, March, and April. You will pay top dollar for these times of year. It seems there is a small window in the beginning of December and again for the month of May for you to get good rates.
When I talked to the travel agent she said she had been to Costa Rica a couple of years ago. She said that the traffic in San Jose was miserable. I am from Seattle and I hate traffic. It seems I can never get away from it. When I said that I had issues with traffic I was told that I could fly into Liberia Airport the other side of the island and avoid the capital all together.
Truthfully, the only difference between you and Costa Rica experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Costa Rica.
It seemed to me that spending one day in the capital would be sufficient. I wanted to spend the rest of my 5 days inland at Monteverde and visit the Arenal volcano. So I decided that I would fly in from Houston Airport to Liberia Airport on the coast of Costa Rica spend my 5 days there, and then I would fly out of the San Jose airport back home.
I was still unsure of when I would be able to actually take this trip but I did ask the travel agent to give me some sample rates for flights. She gave me Wednesday thru Thursday bookings because she said that you get better rates booking that way instead of weekend to weekend. It allows the hotels to maximize their occupancy. You might keep that factoid in mind when asking the boss for time off.
The agent gave me sample prices for flights. For the high season of January, February, March, April, the plane fare on Continental and Delta were $655.00 per person. In the off-season the plane fare was $502.00 so at least there is a choice.
The first thing I have to do is get a passport and that has worried me. With all the changes brought about by 911 I know it is nowhere near as easy as it used to be to get a passport. I had heard that it can take you up to a year to get one. I asked the travel agent about this and she said that things were running much smoother and it was taking a little more than 12 weeks to get your passport.
When planning your trip, consider your comfort. The Caribbean side of the island can be more humid, especially in the summer months.
Knowing enough about Costa Rica to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you’ve just learned about Costa Rica, you should have nothing to worry about.

How Choppers Evolved
Current info about Harley Davidson is not always the easiest thing to locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest Harley Davidson info available.
Choppers came into being in the 1960′s and 1970′s. They were the next step in motorcycle evolution after the “bobber”. The bobber came about after American soldiers returned home from World War II. While they remained loyal to the Harley Davidson company, riders that had served oversees just weren’t quite satisfied with the machines the company was producing. These riders remembered the motorcycles they had seen in Europe that were more lightweight and more exciting. Most hade been trained to work on motorcycles and automobiles in the service. They began to get together and talk about improvements.
To make the bike lighter, riders began removing or shortening the fenders. The front fender was usually removed completely, while the back fender was made short enough to just protect the passenger from mud and water thrown up by the rear tire. This is where the term bobber came from. Riders continued to make changes or customizing their bikes and eventually the “chopper” was born. Their original purpose was for dirt track racing.
The term chopper comes from the process of chopping. Riders began chopping off any part they felt was unnecessary. This included windshields, front fenders, big headlights, crash bars and big seats. The standard large footrests were replaced with forward-mounted foot pegs. The fuel tank was made smaller. This made the bike lighter.
Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.
Next, riders began raking the front end of their choppers so that the angle of the fork to the ground decreased allowing for an increase in the wheelbase. They also raised the handlebars and called them ape hangers.
Anything that was thought too big or unnecessary was either made smaller or removed. The front tire was made small; the rear tire was made fat. Each rider created the bike he wanted to ride.
As always, as soon as this rage caught on, enterprising individuals began designing and creating custom bikes to sell to other riders so they didn’t have to do the work themselves. Choppers began to be built, not just chopped. While this trend slowed for a few years, it seems to have made a comeback. Custom built choppers created by top designers are greatly prized and sought after.
The Shovelhead FX Super Glide was one such Harley Davidson model to come out of the chopper evolution. Choppers became especially popular after the film Easy Rider, starring Peter Fonda, was released in 1969.
When word gets around about your command of Harley Davidson facts, others who need to know about Harley Davidson will start to actively seek you out.
